You could say that business is my hobby. It's what I enjoy hearing about and talking about most. In fact, give me a business problem and I switch instantly into hyper-thought mode to find a solution.
In fact my most recent project, writing a digital book '
8 Keys To Recession Proof Your Business', came about because of the uncertaintly felt by local business owners I spoke to.
I started my career as a commissioned officer in the Royal Air Force working in finance both in the UK and Saudi Arabia as well as in PR and general management. However, my interest in enterprise took me away from realms of uniform and into the world commerce in 1996.
The RAF taught me the importance of maintaining laser focus, achieving precision timing and delivering high impact. If we apply these same principles to our marketing strategies we will knock out our competition.I then spent a number of years in the computer training industry winning contracts with Landis and Gyr, British Steel and The Highways Agency. During this time I also developed, manufactured and marketed a product in the baby industry and successfully negotiated distributorships in the UK and USA.
My enthusiasm for business development was rewarded in 1999 by winning a Dti scholarship to study consumer-marketing strategy at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Chicago. This added to my bachelor's degree in Business Enterprise from Wolverhampton Business School gained part-time as a mature student in 1995 (When I left college and all my mates went to university I went to Alabama to be a missionary for 2 years instead - it taught me heaps about people and communication).
In 2001 I moved into the financial services arena marketing mortgage related insurance products both online and offline. Successfully writing copy and directing advertising spend in excess of £100k per year the company quickly established a firm position in the market.
After years of working as a company director I realised that my real enjoyment came from doing the things that helped businesses to expand and the best way to experience more of this was to work with a number of businesses at the same time. Becoming a business development consultant provided an ideal structure to make this become a reality.
Since early 2004 I have been helping a select number of businesses to increase their profits.
"Peter's involvement has completely changed the way that we look at our veterinary practice. We are definitely more busy and feel very excited about the future". Stuart Bedford, Pearl Veterinary Group, Shrewsbury.
"Since working with Peter Lisney we have doubled our turnover, cut our overheads tremendously and have focussed our advertising to put our 40 year old business back on the map". Tony Vowels, Gibson Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Horsham.
